I noticed this on eBay a "Western-civil-war-canteen". It looks remarkably similar to the type of canteen that St. John's Ambulance used many years ago for first aid duties in the UK.

Doesn't look like any US canteen I'm familiar with. Our old ones are all round right up to WWI when they went to the style that lasted through WWII.

This looks Swiss to me.
