    Fake Stock Markings

I am hoping to get some help. I am looking to purchase this M1icon carbine on the internet (yea, I know!). The dealer is reputable but not all that knowledgeable reference milsurps. Every M1 carbine these days is pretty expensive so before I shell out some $$, I would like your advice reference the stock markings. If you look very closely near the wrist, I think I see a "GHB" stamp in a square box but it appears to be canted about 45 degrees. Your opinions reference the validity of the stock are appreciated.

Give us a frame of reference. What are the markings in the sling well. From what I can see, it looks like it might be an early Underwood.

When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!

It is on an early model Rock Ola. The only pictures provided don't reveal anything obvious in the sling well.

    It's certainly not Rock ola.

RMC sent Underwood some I-cut stocks early on that could have a T and a F ( not necessarily both) in the slingwell; I'm pretty sure this is one of them with a fake looking QHMC stamp near the oiler slot.

When ones sees a stock this sanded and an acceptance stamp that half is new and the other half is well sanded then alarm bells should be going off.

Thank you, that makes sense. In your opinion, would a Rock Ola receiver in a non Rock Ola stock still be a good investment since there are so few of them?

The stock is a Rock-ola made, it's just been sanded and a fake cartouche stamped on it.

As I am still learning, without seeing the markings in the sling well, how do I know its Rock ola? And if I acquire it, should I leave the fake cartouche or remove it? Thanks!

Out here on the Left Coast, I've seen exactly one Rock-ola. I would definitely buy one if the price was OK. Out here it would be $1000+ maybe even $1300.
