M1 Carbine serial

I know there is no way to get an exact date of manufacture on an M1 Carbine. But if I give the specifics would it be possible to determine early war, late war or approximate year? I’ve had this gun for about 25 years.

Winchester receiver serial# 12003xx. Winchester barrel. It has the flat bolt. The trigger assembly has “N16” (I don’t recall where), hammer has “TH”, it has a push button safety, mag release has a “W” or “M” and “WA”. Barrel band has “JM” and has a bayonet lug. Forearm is low wood with 4 rivets, stock has oval oiler. Rear site is adjustable with knob on the right. Not sure but rifle may have been parkerized. The wood is mismatched, forearm appears to have seen good use, the stock looks pretty new and is sort of rough hewn in the pistol grip area.

According to this, yours is in the first batch made by Winchester after the trials rifles. So, one would assume early war.

A newer Carbine person might read somewhere that it's especially early, but it's later in the first block for Winchester. There were many revisions implemented by the time it was produced. The "earlier" Winchesters had dated barrels like 1-43. They also had spring tube receivers which were detachable.

Your serial number was stamped on reciever 8/24/43. So rifle was most likely completed in September 1943.

Wonder if that Hammer is HI.
Don't recall a TH.....
But seems I don't recall much any more.

There are "sticky" threads at the top of the Main M1 Carbine page telling how to add pictures - or just try this: When you post a reply, look for the tab at the bottom right that says "go advanced" - about 1/2 way down on that page you will see "manage attachments" - give that a try. You can pick a file from your device, then upload it, and click "attach." You can also "preview" your post before submitting it. - Bob

after some more investigating I found I have Winchester receiver and barrel, a Saginaw bolt, an Underwood slide, a NPM trigger housing and a Springfield Arsenal replacement stock. I guess I'll just call this rifle Sir Mix-a-Lot....
