    Model 12 Kleins Gun?

What do I have here gents. One of those Kleins guns from Chicago? Here's the info from the listing. Still waiting on my combat shotguns book.

Winchester Model 12 shotgun 12 GA.

Marked "U.S." on receiver with ordnance marking. Serial numbers do not match. Magazine tube manufactured in 1930. Receiver manufactured in 1945. Barrel replaced with full choke 28" barrel and labeled "Nickel Steel".

    Caliber / Gauge: 12 GA
    Barrel Length: 28"
    Serial Number: 978679
Condition: Very good. Wooden stock scratched and finish is worn from use. Minor crack running from receiver on left side of butt stock approx. 1 1/2". Metal finish shows wear from use and has minor oxidation marks. Bore is bright and clear.

That shotgun is in the serial number range of the WWII riot guns, not trench guns. I believe Kleins converted trench guns to long barreled sporting guns. Not sure if they converted any riot guns. They used a non-Winchester barrel and the buttstock usually still had the sling swivel on it or it was removed and the cut-out filled in.

What markings, if any, are on the barrel?
