    Saginaw S.G. in a Saginaw S'G' Stock?

Is this the correct stock for the serial number Saginaw S.G. that is shown? Or, is this a Saginaw S.G. in a what appears to be a Saginaw S'G' stock? Does it matter?

The sling well is marked "RSG".

    SAGINAW M1 CARBINE + MAGAZINE POUCH - C47211 - United States

Your thoughts on this stock and the markings please.

The stock is marked on the right side as having been on an S'G' Carbine when it was accepted by the gov't. The rest of the carbine seems to have parts associated more with an SG. Note that the stock is described as having been repaired. The pictures aren't clear enough to tell much more. As far as, "does it matter? " Yes, it would to me. - Bob

    Bob,

Thank you for the reply, Saginaw's are interesting but somewhat difficult for me to determine "what happened when". I thought the stock was incorrect for an S.G. not to mention the repair.

    Thanks again,

    Tom

    Tom,

I replied since no one else seemed willing to step in. I'm confused by these too. I probably should have waited to see if TenOc or others would have posted something. I'm not certain about the acceptance marks used on SG Carbines that were completed at the Grand Rapids plant. Let's see if others can help clarify this a bit.

A few weeks old for the thread but I just found it. RSG would be found in both S'G' carbine stocks and in S.G. stocks. Robert Irwin made stocks for both Saginaw's. Stocks made for S.G. would also most likely have a few numbers in the sling well along with the RSG. Not found in stocks made for S'G'. This stock has been sanded too but most all have been so some extent. The stock in question is one stamped as being from S'G' Grand Rapids and would not be correct for a S.G. carbine.
