Loading lead bullets in 30 Carbine

What is your 2400 load? Weight of your cast bullets?

Ed,

The bullets, cast as hard as they are, weigh in at 100gr when lubed. I started off with 11.5gr of 2400, but that was too light. So, I bumped it up to 12.0gr and 12.5gr. While I haven't chrono'd the loads yet, 12.5gr seems about right.

do you notice any stuttering / feeding with the lead sliding over the feed ramp?
I used the Winchester HP (exposed lead node) and had some stuttering, I minimized /eliminated this by smoothing / polishing the feed ramp with 300 paper glued to a 1/4" dowel rod.
Have anyone noticed this?

The .30 carbine velocity is high enough that gas checks are needed even with hard bullets. If those bullets do not have gas checks or have the place for them, take a pass.

(Unlike a manual rifle, the carbine has to have a certain amount of power to work, so unless you want a straight pull bolt action, you can't just download to reduce leading.)

So, all the guys on the Cast Boolits website successfully shooting flatbase bullets in their carbines are wrong?

I shot 130 gr plain base cast in my carbines frequently without any problems. What is this take a pass nonsense? I even used to use them in a registered M2 carbine without a hitch.
