After Some Info And Value On This Old SMLE/P14 Scope

Hi All,
Just after some info on this scope and a possible value as im looking to sell it!
Only markings I can find are "sight telescopic"
Any information would be helpful!

Looks like an Aldis scope. Is there a date on it? Is the mounting bracket original to the rifle? They used a lot of different methods to mount those things. What sort of markings are on the rifle?

Pretty sure the scope was not originally on this rifle and the owner has told me there is no other markings visible.
Either they may have been ground off or they are under the rings?
Any idea on the resale price of these?

Looks like an after war mounting. No name scope. The rifle seems to be either sporting or sporterised no 1. More photos of the markings on the rifle will help.

I have seen true Aldis scopes in good/great condition go for over $1000. I can't say I'm much of an expert on these things. If it is a post war Aldis lookalike, and the internals are functional, I would guess a couple hundred dollars... though hopefully someone with a better idea can chime in.

The optics are in good condition with some dust or dirt inside ad everything is functional.

I don't want to pee on anyone's cornflakes, but it isn't an Aldis. It is an Australian Optical Company produced version of the Model 1918 scope, originally made late WW1 by the PPCo in London for use on the new P'14 sniper rifle, & as subsequently produced in Oz for the No1 MkIII (H) T rifle. In the photo the dismounted scope is a WW1 PPCo & that on the rifle is an AOC like yours. It is quite a scarce scope. Sorry for the poor quality pictures - taken in haste.

Now roger if someone had a spare set of Lithgow mounts around that would be great to get reproduced

Agambard, the tube diameter on the Model 1918 is 7/8" (from memory) not 1" as per the Aldis, so it will not fit in standard 1" rings, unless sleeved.

Sam, the scope is definitely an Aussie produced example, not Brit. Even if most of the original markings are now lost, the fact that it says 'Sight Telescopic' makes it AOC as the WW1 PPCo produced examples were not so marked. As regards worth I have not sold one recently & am in the UK anyway, so I would not like to hazard a guess. As you are in Oz it might be better so solicit an idea of value from other knowledgeable fellow countrymen.
