    Expensive ammo? An alternative.

It shoots .22 LR. That's because the action is a Ruger 10/22. This project was inspired by a 2004 Shooting Times article. When I first fired it it reminded me exactly of the regular M1icon Carbine, a little less recoil and report though. The stock pouch holds 2 10 round magazines in which both the followers and springs were removed. Now each Mag holds 45 .22 LR shells and is capped with a rubber magazine cap to keep them from spilling out, these combined with the 10 rounds in the modified 10/22 mag equals 100 rounds. In the pic of the three carbines, the Ruger/M1 is at the top. It has been a fun Winter project.

    Chuck.

Very nice, Chuck! I can see where that took some work, but I like the results. Well done!

To secure the handguard, I removed the four rivets/clip and then drilled down through the rear left hole and secured the handguard with a long thin sheet metal screw, the head of which sits in the hole.
