    Gunny Paste over stained wood?

I just finished staining a cheek riser to match my Number 4 repro (T) stock and would like to protect the finish. My go-to would be BLOicon but I think there's not much more absorption to be done by the wood because of the multiple stain applications. Polyurethane is too shiny (even the satin finish) so I was thinking of Gunny Paste or Minwax paste wax as a top coat. Has anyone used Gunny Paste over stained wood? And no worries... the nails are there just to loosely hold it in place for color comparisons.

You could try Danishicon oil, Tru oil or tung oil. Unlike varnish, they soak in and polymerise to harden. If they dried too gloss, a light wipe with 0000 steel wool will matt it.

Thanks but my concern is the "soak in" part. With the amount of stain that has already been soaked into the wood I'm not sure anything but a topical finish would work. My mix for the staining process was about 1/4 BLOicon, 1/4 turpentine, and 1/2 stain - so the wood has absorbed a lot to get to this point.

I know it's not "correct" but I did rub Johnsons floor polish wax on one of my No.4's for hunting. It turned out great. Is slightly more grippy, protects the wood from rain and snow, and gives it a nice soft finish. It has held up for years.
