    Siamese Longbranch No4

Well I bought it the other day and interesting to fiond that it has the brown / tan "tropical" paint on the metal under the wood. Matching receiver, bolt and forestock .... 2 groove barrel.

One thing I haven't seen before is a LB saftey lever like other No4 safety levers, not the usual ones I see on Longbranchs. Well here it is .....

Thanks for sharing, that's the first one I've seen as a No.4. Do you have any idea how many No.4's were sent to Thailand (Siam)

"...not the usual ones I see on Longbranchs..." What's unusual about it?

This is typical form of the Longbranch safety lever. Note it has no hole in it's upper section. Incidentally this lever is on a Maltby rifle. I believe during the war years whatever was at hand was what went on a particular rifle.

me2 thanks for posting the picture as that is the "usual" one I see on the Longbranchs. I just didn't have a good pic to post.

The safety lever in the first picture is an earlier one, correct for a '42 Long Branch.

Actually there are 3 basic safeties or Lock Bolts typically found on Long Branch No.4 rifles. The type encountered will depend on the year of manufacture.
Early LB No4’s will have this type:

The type shown at the top of the page would be considered a mid war variation.

The “Boot” style as seen below is a late war variation which was used through 1950 production.

    Greetings ET,

I have the twin to your rifle. I acquired it a few years ago in a lot of No4's that I purchased @ auction. I'll have to dig it out and check the s/n.

    cheers,

    Mike
