    Mag Couplers?

Were M1icon Carbine magazine couplers produced during WWII?

And who, if anyone, manufactures them currently apart from these "John Mansen" units which appear to be ill fitting.

Also, was this Inland 30 rounder intended for M2's?

    Thanks

30s WERE intended for the M2, along with many other changes. The couplers I think are just a civilian thing and don't work so well. GIs seemed to like friction tape. We always tried to discourage taping mags together as if you lose one, you lose two and when going to ground you jam the feed lips into the ground... Makes things heavy and unbalanced too.

In California, we are training to make that swap 3-times faster than everyone else due to the 10-round limit here.

Loading that mag after it's been in the dirt invariably resulted in a stoppage as well. Another common, unproductive habit was wearing spare belts like a Mexican bandit Short and long round stoppages and additional dirt did not help. Being in a hurry to cause a malfunction is usually counterproductive in a firefight, no matter how cool it looks.

If the carbine has a serious flaw, it has to be the magazines. Two tiny nubs are all that is holding the thing in the weapon. They are a wear item as the nubs eventually start to wipe off. Maybe that's why they made multi millions of the magazines. You can use the 30s without the last type of mag catch but they flop around a lot but still work fine. Compared to say an M14icon or 16 magazine they are junk. I actually liked the AK style mag catch on the M14. Direct, secure and obvious.

Here's pics of mags with worn nubs (nibs) - when they start measuring very much shorter than 1.5" from the top of the mag, you can start getting failures to feed. The mag shown in pictures #2 & #3 is about .035" short of that. I've got another "shooter" mag that measures about .020" short and it still functions OK. - Bob

I had a coupler here for a while and tried it, just made things worse for me.

tried the tape "solution" and as you pointed out it increases the weight and upsets the balance unless you're Sgt. Rock
