    Lens covers for n ° 32 telescope

    Hi guys,
please, an information, I have seen more types of lens covers for n ° 32 telescope (3), were they for the various types I, II, III, or were they just made by different manufacturers? I saw a simple one, one with a stop and loop, and a third with a ring that always remains attached to the telescope. Thank you in advance at all who will answer.
    Regards

They were made over time by different manufacturers & as you say do show three (I think!) main variations. However, there isn't one 'correct' type for any specific mark of scope as they were used entirely interchangeably. Sometimes the caps from the No42 & 53 scopes were also used. They are like the type with the loop that goes round the scope tube, but it was positioned differently & would foul the Range & deflection turret assembly, so was simply cut off leaving a perfectly usable set of lens caps for the No32.

Thank you Roger, I thought that those with the ring were used on n ° 32 mkIII when they were placed in case n ° 8 mk2, and it is inserted in this kind of tube without being blocked.

Hi. There are two patterns with the leather loop/ring round them. It is positioned further forward on the lens caps specifically intended for No32 scopes, so that the loop does not foul the Range & Deflection drums. If you try to fit the type intended for the No42 & No53 scopes to a No32 the loop, being further back, fouls the drums. I gather from what Peter L & others have mentioned, snipers just cut off the loop from the No42/53 type, & then they would fit onto a No32.

One way you will spot the No42 variant is that the "sides" of the ocular lens cover are much shorter than those made for the No.32. From memory - mine are long gone - I'd say about 5/8" or so deep.
