    Is this a Springfield barrel?

    Help,
Bought an M1903 that has been sporterized and the seller insists the barrel was the original barrel. I don't think so. I think it maybe a Winchester barrel taken off a sporting rifle. The only marks are as depicted. However it is 30-06 caliber. Thoughts

The contour looks like 03 springfield. Look for the rear sight indexing pin location. This would be at about 2:00 when viewed from yhe shooters position. I think the "P" on the barrel is indicative also. It probably doesn't doesn't matter much as it has been totally modified. Still good for a sporter though if the bore is good.

Thanks, I think after looking closely again you are right. the index pin mark was where you said, faintly visible.

Desolder the front sight. Maybe the original markings are still visible under it.

Looks like someone turned it on a lathe. Not so sure marking still visible. I do suspect it is GI.
