Here is a pretty nice Underwood

I was at a friends place today and he got his two M1icon carbines out. He has this Underwood and a Saginaw "SG". I took the Underwood apart to see what parts it had. Here is the parts. I believe the receiver was made by Singer because of the "B" stamp but I don't know why it also has a "C". I have never seen an upper handguard that has Pederson stamped in script, what's the deal with these? I also haven't seen this cartouche before, it looks like JEF over GHD.
Overall it looks like a nice carbine, I wouldn't mind having it for myself.

The stamp would be U.E.F./ GHD
"good night Chesty, Wherever You Are"

I believe that "C" on the receiver may be the remnants of the "bomb" that should be there. My Underwood "B" has the "bomb" in that location. Nice carbine!

The "C" on the receiver bevel is most likely a partial ord bomb stamp that is found on Underwoods. Sure don't recommend removing the front sight just for the heck of it.

    Edit,
Sorry Singer B beat me to it.

I didn't take the front sight off to check the parts, the key and pin are missing so it's loose, I slid it off so it wouldn't fall off while I was handling it. I ordered a USGI key and pin for it.

It looks like varnish on the stock? If so, I'd strip that off and return it to its original RLO finish. Mine has a barrel dated 2-44 with a serial number of 2,657,xxx. The UEF/GHD cartouche on mine appears to be smaller, more rectangular, placed further to the rear of the stock and with the GHD over the UEF and the crossed cannons to the right in the same box.

That carbine has had more action than Josh Duggar at a slumber party.
