Greetings in Israel... It looks like a Howdah pistol of some sort, there are lots of variations. Meant so the story goes, to shoot tigers off the back of an elephant to protect the riders they were large caliber and this one looks like a Damascus barrel type. Yes, I think it's real. How did you come across it where you are?

Here's a little more to read about... Howdah pistol - Wikipedia

More photos will help, especially of all and any markings.

Looks like a sleek percussion model of the photo in the wiki.

So, it's a brass cartridge gun, and they made them to match the calibers of the hunters' rifles. Originally they were just sawed off rifles but they became the thing to have if you were anybody...and were as varied in their appearance as were the rifles. Each gunmaker did something unique. Wish it were a bit closer so I could try and determine what caliber...maybe you could show us a measurement in mm across the breech of the cartridge and the muzzle? I can't read any of the writing on the barrel.
