Question GXY 1944 P38 softshell holster

    Hi everyone!

I picked this holster up online and was both excited and suspicious when it arrived. The condition is seemingly too good for a holster that is 77 years old. The skeptic in me had some doubts...

The research I've been able to do of the few online sites seem to indicate that it is legit, but I wanted to show the group here and see if there is confirmation of that. It is marked "gxy 1944" and the markings seem to match some other examples I've seen online. There is no Waffenamt marked on it, but according to this link (P38 Holsters and Lanyards) the 1944 gxy softshell holsters did not include them. Another link I found of someone selling holsters just like this indicated that "back in 1990’s several crates of these holsters were found in the Baltic states after the fall of the Iron curtain" and that might explain the good condition. (https://pre98.com/shop/h-201-mint-un...-p-38-holster/).

Any help/information offered is greatly appreciated.

It looks good to me but I'm no expert. I have an unissued P38 holster as well but not by that manufacturer so they do exist. As said, they were making them up to the end of the war and not all made it to the front lines and after the war there was no further need for them so they sat in storage. If it was a 1941 I'd be more suspicious of it. There are a couple of lots that are recognized as being legit. Mine is one, if your sources are saying this one is also, I think you're fine. I have a FN1920 Holster that's in unissued condition also. Most of my holsters are well used.
