Arisaka Trainer - Does anyone have insight into this rifle?

I just received an Arisaka training rifle. It was advertised as a type 99, but I'm not sure now that I have it in hand.
The serial number is 85. Stamped on the receiver, bold and firing pin. No other markings.
The receiver is larger than a typical 99 receiver.
Looks like at some point there was a duffel cut repair.
Any insight is welcome as I'm not sure what I have.
