    1873 Trapdoor SRS check

This is my first Trapdoor, overall it's pretty nice but sometime in the past someone took off just enough of the butt stock to put on a brass? flat butt plate. Will soon post pics. Serial number is 255110. Thanks in advance.

Hit! Issued to Texas A&M... First serial number I've ever found a record for.

A&M university? That's different. Was this a usual thing? For rifle team or what purpose? Thanks for the quick reply.

Mine is serial number 274432 but it is no where near as nice looking. The wood is dark and there is little finish left, but it shoots well. It is what got me started loading black powder cartridges many years ago.

I'll try to take a picture tomorrow and post. Pretty much flat, heavy brass. They just took off enough wood to make it flat as they still used the mortise and original screw hole on top.

I was thinking maybe it would provide a clue to someone. Doesn’t sound too unique though. Still, would be neat to see.

    Buttplate

Buttplate pictures, I stand corrected, there is no screw on top. Length of pull is approximately 13 3/8"
