1942 “MM” 7.92 South African

I acquired several 40 round boxes of this 42 dated South African made 8mm Mauser ammo. Does anyone have any experience shooting this stuff? Is it safe, etc…? The ammo looks in very good condition. Id assume its safe for a K98K.
Any info would be appreciated.

It would be hard to blow one up for sure. You never know what ammo has been through, how it was stored. If it looks good and packaged well, it's likely OK.

Not South African. You have post-war (1950s) 7.9 Mauser ammo made in Canada, on a clandestine US (CIA) contract. This well-documented "secret" ammo also exists in 9mmP.

Forgot to mention that it's non-corrosive and Boxer-primed, and it shoots great.

Apparently the clandestine (false WW2 dated) 9mm was supplied to the US until approx. 1970 -

So who knows how long the 8mm was supplied...but I suspect into the early 1960s.

It was all apparently made in the 1950s, both calibers, and much of it was surplussed in the '70s and '80s. The 7.9 is the only surplus I shoot in my G43.
