6 Digit Serial Number Anomaly
I've noticed my rifle and 3 others from 3407xx to 4647xx where the 7 in hundred spot(3rd digit from right) is larger than other digits. Anyone have any info on this? How long it lasted etc.
Thanks and Happy New Year!

serial number anomaly
I have a photo of a demil receiver with the "large" number 7 also it was marke 7,62 NATO
Early 1941 Winchester serial numbers have the first number in the serial off-set too

I look through my list of serials numbers and see many like that... It's not just the digit "7" but many. The die must have struck hard and it was before hardening so the steel was still softer. Some examples are almost caved in. Many of these are from members pics shared here.

Flat stamp curved surface. The high spot of the curve where the stamp contacts first will always show deeper. It's in a similar location on so many examples because of how the jig positions the receiver for stamping.
