The decision to finally cut barrel was made yesterday. Effort was made to take my time and I'm satisfied it came out well. Next trick is finding a proper forearm. The magazine tube will need shortening about 3/4" as well I guess and if that's the case holes for the associated mag plug will need re-drilling also.
Before proceeding further, any suggestions, comments or advice is welcome.
Photos of heat shield possibilities due to rccathy and his interest in helping come up with a solution. We're not sure how they'll work out yet. I need to find away to bend the correct radius and go from there but will post any progress. The adapter is one I've had several years.
If you can find a tinsmith shop or any good metal shop, they should be able to do that bend. Take the muzzle part along and explain it needs to fit and they should be able to comply...
If you come close to the original thickness it should work, the originals weren't noted for rigidity either. The shortcomings of the handguard getting snagged were well known. They look better than they actually work...
How does it feel stiffness wise?
Think it’ll work?
The thickness appears promising is about all I can say at this point but I plan on showing it to a local shop here in town and get their opinion. Not sure they could bend it but I'll also try a sheet metal shop.
I feel confident it could work. I'll keep you all posted...thanks very much.

Well, wouldn't you know East Taylor just began accepting new orders for their adapters....so I ordered one for the Model 12 with a 4 row 19 hole shield. That being said I still intend to continue to go forward with the above prototype flats and will post results.
I acquired this magazine plug with the bayonet adapter several years ago. I didn't know why the holes didn't seem to match the end of the M97 Riot magazine but I think I just discovered it may be for a M97 solid frame Trench Gun....if can someone could confirm it would be appreciated.
