To remove the wood from the pump, you need a special spanner to remove the nut at front. If you look at the schematic you see the part(3) is unscrewed from part (1) and the wood slides off. The wood has been on a long time and is stuck. Maybe dried oil or varnish. Just go easy.
Hello Jim, .... removing the action slide screw cap hasn't been much trouble but the wood and slide action were my concern. I wasn't sure how the arm was originally attached to the slide action.
Just to confirm - if the front end of the action slide (where the cap screws on) is tapped on, the arm and action slide should separate....is that correct?
OK, it's separated - but - I messed up the edge tapping it out with a brass drift punch.
Apparently the steel screw cap threads into a matching threaded brass insert inside the end of the tube. Despite using a brass drift on the edge of the tube to nudge it out of the arm, threads along one edge got messed up. I assumed the entire tube was steel including the threaded end but that isn't the case. Unless the threads are re-tapped or dressed up somehow I'll be looking for another action slide. I never anticipated that insert being brass - guess it makes sense though now that I think about it...nuts.
Dress those back with a fine half round file. Keep working at it gently until everything fits again.
I tried a small half round file after discovering what I'd done. But I think the initial tapping also managed to peen the edge along that area enough to slightly raise the radius. I'll continue while filing and try threading a spare steel cap into it and hopefully re-cut the damaged threads.
