I found a rifle you are asking about. I will send pictures tomorrow. Butt disc is 4/41 / AR 12 / 18. buttstock flat is marked, "NZ M R."

Many thanks for digging it out, it is a beautiful example. I assume was rebarreled also in 1941 using a 1929 production barrel.

I have "located" over a dozen of the NZ .22 Pattern 1914 No. 2, all have been upgraded to .22 Short Mk IV*, all have been rebarreled and all have had their original marking disc replaced or removed.

If any of the 1922 order of 500 NZ .22 Pattern 1914 No. 2 survived without conversion I have not found one yet!

I pulled the short handguard and confirmed barrel markings. 1929 dated barrel installed April 1941. best, p.

A few years ago I saw one sold at auction that had the bolt jammed into the bolt-way (or the action was twisted) it made a "fortune" (cannot remember how much but it was 'many 100s' of GB pounds plus 25% buyers premium to add onto the hammer price)

It was definitely converted. They had good images and you could see the original markings had been struck through for the conversion.

Unfortunately the online portion was prebidding only so I have no idea of the final price.

So much for a 22lr to go with my NZ mk1*.
