    Patton Sword

    Hello
I would like some information on my 1913 I believe, Patton Sword and I don't know the right terminology ( Horse stake - swivel ).
I think it says 15 CAV on the leather Scabbard. Any information would be grateful.
    Thanks

You speak of the "Picket Pin"? The sword is a 1914 Springfield Armory of course. They went out of service about 1922 I think? The picket pins too as Cavalry was downgraded about then. The cases are seen more than the picket pins, yours doesn't look like what I'm use to seeing. I have a case here matter of fact. they were peddled as scabbards for Kragicon bayonets by a surplus dealer at one point so stories began about them being for the Krag rifles in the cavalry...except they would have used carbines.

Most of the picket pins I've seen have a hammer type head and they had a set of issue tools. Here's a stolen pic of the picket pin types and the issue shovel to go with...
