Purple tip 7,62mm cartridge is from Japan. In 1964 the Japanese designed and manufactured Howa Type 64 rifle,
being gas operated and selective fire with a 20rd magazine. The 7,62mm NATO cartridge used in this Type 64 had
a 10% reduction in powder charge. The Japanese found that the reduced loading of the NATO cartridge was superior
in accuracy to the US M14 rifle and better in full auto. The Type 64 rifle was never exported and has since been
replaced. These purple (correct name is violet color) tip cartridges are not common to find.

I'm familiar with this one, looked at it with interest while I was in service but never had the chance to use one.

I seriously doubt it ever would have. Without directional pressures, the last two would just be wild. I know when I loaded two round ball in 45/70 they would land one on POA and the other within two inches. These would have been wild flyers.
After looking at how those are loaded, I'm surprised they didn't get a bunch of squibs. Were the trailing projectiles considerably smaller in OD?

I could see that too, stuck in the bore after pressure drop.

Do not have much information on Project Salvo 1952 to 1961. Winchester - Western was involved, some of the cartridge
cases were head stamped WRA 53, WCC 57 and Superspeed 30-06 SPRG.
standard length case cartridge case had two 96gr bullets or three 60gr bullets.
long neck case for duplex had crimps in case neck

I have a box of 38 Special around here somewhere that’s loaded with two bullets.
Funny how often “someone” thought this was a good idea!
