    Attic find

I picked this one up a while ago. Barrel #s are in the 6 & 7. Definitely original 42 barrel. Everything looks like absolutely original Except Lock bar. Should be flushnut. I think because of poor function or to sell off it was pulled. This is exactly as purchased from an old DCM member. I think a battle survivor. Lots of very early parts will remain with rifle. Nice to locate an early rifle, I would not change anything, Can you make-out any markings or stamps on the stock inside the barrel channel
or outside ? Even years ago, any 1942 rifle was very difficult to find

Some years ago I bought a Springfield M1icon from one of my father's fishing friends, it was serial numbered 80316, he was in the USMC Seabees
during WW2. Only original part was the revision 2 bolt, complete late WW2 rebuild and in excellent condition. He told that he bought this
from a USMC Officer (who knows for sure ?) Barrel is Buffalo Arms revision 19, exc bore too.

Nice...maybe have a look to see if there's still a round firing pin or was it changed to the half flat profile model?
    Regards, Jim

Your correct Jim, an 80,000 would still have the round firing pin. I use the M10 tool for a quick
    check of the firing pins

Just in case he wants to shoot it, no point in chancing an accident.

I believe that I read your serial number as five digit but is really six digit and your firing pin would be the late half round

If I had an attic, I'd check it.

Does your rifle have a letter code on the left side of the lower band ?

In one pic, it looks like it might, but can't quite make it out.
    Thanks.

I hope OP doesn't mind, I carried the pics here for posterity. Nice example of a time capsule for future reference.
