A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. "American soldiers of the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division, VII Corps, First United Statesicon Army, prepare to march on Harscheid with M4 Sherman tanks from the 741st Tank Battalion during Operation Lumberjack of the the Allied invasion of Germanyicon. 8 March 1945." "ETOhistory.com"

For some reason the ponchos made me think this was Korea. Didn't quite make sense so I looked. Knew it was either that or spring 1945...

That still had some the Raincoats. synthetic resin coated, Dismounted when I was in the army, 1st Sgts had them. They
had four buttons and knee length. The ponchos were better as you could keep your rifle under the poncho

I think I might choose to walk rather than ride on that wet sliver of a fender right above the track. Can't imagine they could hit the brakes in time in the event of a slip.

They wouldn't be grouping like that if enemy fire was a threat. Look at their attitude - waiting for orders away from direct threat, smoke break during movement halt.

    Beats walking.
