So...they were undersize then? The hollow base was meant to make them "Bump up" when firing to obturate.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Yes, the modern 45 Colt bullet is .452 while the original bullet was .454 and the S&W was chambered for .455 Mark II

The hollow base lead bullets work best even if .452 diameter

I try try some old .454 lead bullets but the hollow base still is better

They still make these! I have one for my 1917 when I get a wild-hair to put it into "civilian clothes" along with a set of Fitz target grips.

I bought mine through eBay: Adjustable Revolver Sight - Original Wondersight for SW | eBay

If you ask me, this is a great little rear sight for an incredible price. No affiliation -- I just really appreciate something old school like this still being produced and still feeling old school.

It could easily be made with a bunch of plastic and cost $15. I'll take the steel for $50 more any day of the week.

Also forgot to mention that the old mainspring in the S&W revolvers should be replaced by a modern S&W "N" frame
mainspring, it will also improve the trigger pull and last forever
