Combined Military Services Museum, Maldon UK

I thought I'd better back up my claim that the Combined Military Services Museum in Maldon is 2nd only to the National Firearms Collection in Leeds. It probably just pips the Warminster Small Arms Collection but access is far easier than both these others. See pics of what is an incredible collection which also includes much ordnance, combat knives and grenades. This is just a small selection of what they have which include the ex-Donnington stores collection.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. If you fancy another trip down there some time Nige, you could probably quite easily persuade me to come along too!

Looks & sounds rather more comprehensive than I'd realised.

Fantastic looking collection, I really didn't know it existed!
Live or deactivated, I'm assuming deactivated if it's easier to access than Leeds or Warminster.

many of them were deactivated to various unofficial standards at various times over the years by the staff at COD Donington and elsewhere.

Yes......, a very much disputed change of ownership that still seems to be discussed at Ordnance Corps level. So said, 'hurriedly' disposed of by the MoD/Ordnance to '.....whoever....' when the main Donnington RAOC Ordnance Depot was taken into civilian hands.. Yep, very contentious....

A bit odd to see presentation or target Swedishicon Mausers on display, but...
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

    Edward Bernays, 1928

Much changes, much remains the same.
