New Scout Scope for my old Swede

I’ve had this Swedishicon Mauser for nearly 30 years. Back when my eyes were good and young, I could squeeze 3/4 inch groups out of it with my good hand loads. Nowadays, I am lucky if I can get 1.5 inch groups with the same load. But I suppose it’s still pretty good with a rifle made in 1908 and iron sites. To try and give my tired eyes a little help I installed a scout scope mount on the rear sight base. Then I found a vortex crossfire two scout scope on eBay for a good price and put it on there. I went out on my deck and shot at 92 yards to zero the scope and see what it would do with some of the fine Swedish M 41 military surplus ammo. After doing a visual boresighting down the barrel at my target and adjusting the scope, it only took a couple of rounds to bring my sights down to my desired point of aim. Then I shot several three round groups with surprising results. I’d say this all raffle still has some life left in her still.

    My best group measuring 7/16”

My last group of seven to check scope zero after remove and reinstall. Very happy.

A friend of mine carried a Mauser with a scout scope successfully for years. Many good hunts. Yours shoots fine...I used Vortex Crossfire for a few years on my 700 Rem heavy barrel.

Thanks Jim. I can’t express how tickled I am with the way the scope breathe new life into this rifle. My eyes are getting to where it’s difficult to focus on sites and target these days. I’m still able to hold my own, but nothing like I could do even 10 years ago. I do plan to hunt with it that’s for sure

I'm hearin' you. I've accepted sandbag and benchrest shoots and optics as a way of life now and shoot far better and am more satisfied with a range practice...than say, throwin' half your shots into the bush. The eyes aren't going to be getting any better soon so it's good to get this optical advantage going. If you like shooting this better now you'll be out more. Hunts should go better.

Yes, I’m hoping for a good opportunity to take a deer this season with the swede. I also recently installed an over bore scope mount on my K31icon. This is an upgrade from the offset mount I had on it. Much easier to settle in behind the scope to make the shot. That’s an excellent rack driver as well, even with iron sights. Should be even better now.
