He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose
There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Wing and a Prayer

Don't know this ones history nor outcome but would have been very interesting trying to land or ditch in this aircraft.
I'd surmise the pilot has the max starboard aileron input he could have to keep level but a testament of what damage sustained and keep flying looks like.

Look at the degree of damage to the area behind the turret yet it's still flying. By the canopy not being open and other visible damage it's probable the back seater(s) didn't make it. That was one tough plane the Avenger, built by the "Grumman Iron Works" here on Long Island, NY.

We've all read and heard the stories, but visual proof such as this really puts it in perspective!

Recently there was an article about a Brazilianicon P-47 in the Italianicon Campaign that was return with a large section of wing missing. I will see if a can find the article. Absolutely amazing the degree of damage these old warbirds can take.
