    25mm x 163mm Japanese anti aircraft round

We just had a gunshow here, the big one for the year. Not well attended by the normal gun guys, we had a whole row less of tables this year. It's still only big at about 450 tables... Anyway, I got a couple things for the ordnance collection, one being a Japaneseicon 25mm X 163mm anti aircraft round. A friend sells curio and knew I liked this stuff. Here's the blurb on it...

The Type 96 25mm Gun was an automatic cannon used by the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. A locally-built variant of the Frenchicon Hotchkiss 25 mm anti-aircraft gun, it was designed as a dual-purpose weapon for use against armored vehicles and aircraft, but was primarily used as an anti-aircraft gun in fixed mounts with one to three guns.

The Type 96 cartridge case was a rimless type design with a deep extraction groove at the base. The projectiles fired by the weapon were slightly unusual in that they had two rotating bands. The forward band was slightly smaller in diameter than the rear band. It was believed that this was to reduce wear on the rifling near the chamber. The case of the cartridge was crimped around the rear rotating band. The complete round weighed approximately 820 g (1.81 lb) with the projectile weighing 320 g (0.71 lb).

Nice catch Jim I'm on hold at present with ordnance collecting
    .
One of my bikes is having a major mechanical check the dreaded Ducati Desmodromic valve clearances which requires the bike to be pretty much torn down to the engine, frame & wheels that's the price of owning a Ferrari motorcycle !
Also now my go to tourer has developed a front braking malady that has to be sorted asap as I need it for the 18/11 or I suppose I could take a rocket I have enough replacements, the tourer gets over 300klms before reserve but my the Ducati's 160 klm's or less depending on the right wrist position.

Did the seller know what it was exactly, Jim, i.e. Japaneseicon 25mm?

If I had seen it I probably wouldn't have realised that it was Japanese but I may have purchased it if the price was right and it was confirmed FFE, i.e. legal to own in the UKicon.

I questioned that the next day because I was working his tables...and he was WELL aware. He also knows Japanese is good because of rarity here. He gave me a break he said. That wasn't the only good deal from him that show...

Here is a photo of the Frenchicon Hotchkiss 25mm round; that I collected a few years ago.
The ogive on this particular round is similar in construction to a rifle bullet. Copper jacket lead filled.
