Any details out there for this photo?

I love this photo. So much that I had a larger oil-on-canvas print made to hang in my office.
It's easy to find. Just search 'Marines in action at Belleau Wood'. I've never seen or read any details of the actual photo though, even though it appears in many an article every spring around the anniversary, such as this one...https://www.warhistoryonline.com/war...leau-wood.html

Maybe someone's google-fu is better than mine. What day of the battle, what unit were these guys from, etc., unless the details are all truly lost. It's my go-to spot on the wall to stare when I'm stuck on a hard problem.

Marine Corps Museum

Great place. For anyone visiting this area, I highly recommend it. I've been many times since it's only 30 minutes away.
Great Belleau Wood display, among many other equally great displays. I don't recall seeing the photo above in the displays.

One of the best features of the museum is the hiking trail up behind the main building. There are memorials all along the way for just about every major battle throughout our great history.

This has the photo listed as day 10 of the battle. June 10, 1918. caption seems reasonable given the type of weapon in the previous post. no bibliography thought to validate. Steve's article cites NARA for the source, but my initial search of online records at the national archives didn't find it. I'll try more this weekend.

"U.S. 23rd Infantry, France, 1918. This photograph was taken during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, perhaps the most important offensive for the U.S. troops and the outcome of World War I (Andrews 2014)."
The reference points to a history.com article here https://www.history.com/news/6-american-heroes-of-wwi, which mentions nothing that is in the caption, so I'm not buying it.

no mention of 5th Marines.

Hey,
Remember the court scene in the movie Hacksaw Ridge when Desmond Doss' Father comes to deliver the letter and the sitting (Judge?) see's he had served in the 'Great War' and Decorated Twice at Belleau Wood.

I like that scene in Hacksaw ridge.

Given the circumstances of how unites were combined, and of course the fact of Pershing not caring much for Marines, It's not surprising that citations for my photo, and others I've found, make no mention of them.
