1 Jan 2024 Garand Picture of the Day

This U.S. soldier is learning how to run an early “gas-trap” Garandicon rifle in November 1939.

There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.

Looks like pics of the Congress Heights range I've seen in the early pics. What a nice old rifle.

That five round clip he is trying to load with is not an en-bloc M1icon clip, but a Springfield '03 stripper clip. Staged photo.

I always found in that prone position when clip loading my SMLE's that rolling the rifles top towards oneself slightly made it easier to get the charger clips in and stripped the last one don't matter as the bolt will clear it from the charger bridge, anyone else roll the rifle towards themselves slightly in reloads!

Not even snipers would bothered getting themselves that entangled in the M1907 sling in combat.
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

    Edward Bernays, 1928
