I would have soaked in Muriatic acid and be done with rust. It works wonderfully.
The pics here are not a "K bar" but a Mk1 I think. It was just leather stock. I did a kit too and the hardest is gluing the slabs and then the slimming.

The electrolysis worked pretty well but I think the acid might get the rest. Isn't there a water MA mix ratio? How much soak time?

Yes, I've been told 50/50. I just use straight and a couple hours or until it's ALL gone. It'll do it up perfect for you. If you leave it overnight, it'll turn black when you wash it.
