wooden practice ordenance

stopped into a indoor flea market today , found a decent flaming bomb 5o cal ammo can to restore $10 , just has a light coat of spray paint , can see the original paint through it

anyway , he had a "WOODEN" practice/dummy bomb that stood about 3 feet , very heavy and actually pretty and n good shape , almost like it had a steel or lead core , that heavy , anyone familiar with these , how collectable , rare , common , what they go for , any info at all?

Need photos. Way too many different types. They are not common in any case. 3ft high and heavy, it probably would have come home with me if less than $100 easy. More than that I'd have to think on it but a couple hundred isn't out of the question for these.

he had $135 on it , but hes a haggler , he had $20 on the flaming bomb can and he cut that in half at the drop of a hat , i bet i could get it for $100 ,i cant post photos here , i tried everything , and cant seem to get it , its the only site ive never been able to figure out , extremely frustrating

i had never heard of wooden practice bombs , never knew it was a thing

in fact i would say almost identical to this except the painted stripes were different color and i think there was a tip on it

The pic shown looks like a US Navy 3 inch dummy/drill round. In the early 80's the market was flooded with new in the box WWII 3 inch drill rounds. As I recall the price then was $15-20USD. Used for gun crew training. Price now???

this actually gave me a lightbulb moment , i did not understand why a dummy round would be wood , i see now ITS FOR PRACTICE DRILLS , lol , ifeel stupid , now i also understand why it weighs what it weighs

Ah, that isn't a bomb. It's a practice shell, 3 inch as already identified. They are fairly common and up till a few years ago were very cheap. I have four different types of them and the box to go with them and I don't think I paid more than $25 for any of them.

Now however, the supply has dried up and the ones I'm seeing for sale are around $100, sometimes more. I wouldn't pay that much for one as I have four already but if I wanted and needed one, I probably would. I haven't seen any cheaper in about three years.

Just to affirm what many have posted, these 3" practice shells were plentiful at Flea markets 15 - 20 years ago. I picked up three with the steel 'projectile' and wooden 'shell casing' which I think look better and might be a little rarer due to their being made out of what would have been a strategic material back then. I paid $100 for all three 10 years ago but haven't seen any for sale the last few years, most having been picked up by collectors I assume. I would think $100 to $150 would be a fair price for one today.

well went back today , i remembered a couple things wrong , he had $145 on it and i thought the metal was painted , he seen me looking at it again and said hundred bucks , i said sold , thing has to weigh 30lbs
