My L39 A1 has the 17mm Matchmaker front sight fitted; but the butt storage capsule was full of the original 15mm front sight inserts.
Reading the article; makes me realise that I nee to shoot it more!

I wonder who told the author that L42's were still used in the Gulf and Afghanistan upto 2005............................ that might be an urban myth too far!

The Lee Enfield 'Enforcer' was in use in Afghanistan.
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

A lot of Enfields were used in Afghan ...... but not by the UK, need to rewind the clock and look at the Russians in Afghanistan to get the big picture......
Speaking of pictures, its now been approved by the powers that be , that Full beards are now allowed in the British Army, I got my official notice a few days ago...........although there are certain trades/religion etc that could support a Beard, its now open for all........ obviously nothing to do with trying to recruit etc !!!
Only problem I have is I'll look like one of those old fat re-enactors and look totally out of place in a uniform........with a grey beard.
