Swedish Mauser Carbine M94 questions

Hi again, just pulled out my 1903 Swedish Mauser Carbine from the safe and contemplating some items.

Unfortunately the rifle was sporterized, the forstock and front sight guard was removed.

The stock does not have inletted spot for a disc on the side of the stock. There is evidence of a stock disc that was present on top of the comb. Anyone aware of the significance of this location vs the side of the stock?

Also, considering a restoration... looking for the following, if anyone can advise:

• full replacement stock M94
• all front sight guard hardware for M94 version
• sling + buckle

I would recommend Prestigious Wood Stocks for a complete set of wood. You will need to do a bit of fitting and finishing but that's to be expected. Alternately, you could hunt around at gunshows, eBay etc and see if you can find an original as they do turn up occasionally. As for the metal components look at Numrich, Liberty Tree etc.

Thanks Snow Dog, I am familiar with prestige, I fitted one of their fore stocks to a Lee-Enfield No4 last year. I did ok with it, but took a bit of fiddling and still not ideal. I have also been scouring all the usual retail and auction sites.

As far as the stock disc location on the comb, after some more searching, it may have been done on early stocks. Mine is a 1903 and the stock matches the rifle serial number.

Another option, if you want to keep the current stock, would be to take it to a good stockmaker and have them make an extension of the forestock. They could likely hide the joint under the barrel band. Once you find the nose piece, handguards and other bits they could fit it all together and make it look pretty darn close to original. That's what I did with my Norwegian Krag M1912 Carbine.
