    Stock question

With all the fake stocks popping up these days I started wondering about one I have. It is a very early Inland , if correct, that came on a QHMC I bought awhile back. I took some photos to show you guys. It has been sanded and/or refinished judging from the even , smooth color all over stock and handguard and from the bottom where the housing sticks out. It has a AAV re arsenal stamp on the left side and these markings in the slingwell... O LA, flaming bomb, and CC. Does it look right to you experts? It would seem to me unusual for a humper to bother with a rebuild stamp on one he's trying to pass off and the price of the carbine wasn't jacked up by the seller because of the stock so I'm thinking it is okay but I still have much to learn about these.

My vote is that it looks OK from the pictures posted. Is it still in highwood configuration?

It does look like it has had a fair amount of sanding from the slight buttplate overhang and "roundness" to edges. The markings in the sling cut don't look so crisp that it is a dead give away that they were put there recently.

Mike it is low wood now. I think it has been cut down just going by a more rounded smooth edge on the slide cutout. The handguard is actually a RSG

    Shamrocks,
The outside looks as though it could have possibly been sanded. Might have been done at the time of the rebuild. That's a nice cut of walnut, it might not even be stained.
Markings in the slingwell look correct and being a I cut it was surely a Hi-Wood at one time.
Look inside the stock. Is the wood clean? No grime? Freshly oiled?
Usually that's a sure sign of being refinished.
I have a few I'm working on right now that were so bone dry that a Trigger Housing would almost fall thru them. I like to soak the stock with a warmed mixture of Thinned/BLOicon. It's amazing how much it can swell up and tighten the fit on dried out stocks. Messy...yep...but worth the elbow grease. I've bought a few stocks lately that had thin slices of walnut glued to the front and rear of the stock to snug the housing up. Have also noticed that some Early I cuts tend to show more TH reveal.
All in all a nice looking stock.

    Enjoy

Charlie, it looks to be pretty clean inside so if it was refinished, someone did a good job on it. Thanks guys for the info and help. I was going to replace it at some point if it was faked ....but not now. I guess I couldn't believe my luck in getting a carbine with an early, hard to find stock like this one so it will definitely stay right where it's at on my Quality it came on.

It's beautiful. With the 'bomb' and small 'CC' in the slingwell, no large 'CC' on the buttstock is correct. If I ever knew, I have forgotten what 'LA' means in the slingwell, but it is correct. That stock came on an early Inland and would be worth a lot to someone. You might consider selling/trading it.

Thanks Inland44. That's why I was concerned about it being real or not. It's so great looking. If you come across what "LA" stands for I don't see it in any of my reference stuff so let me know. I think I may have asked on the old forum, but don't remember what serial block this stock would be correct for. I have a 3.0 million six digit Inland but isn't that a little too late for this stock?

    Yes, way too late.
