Which Book?

What book should I buy to research my M1917 Eddystone? I hadn't had the 'Ol Girl out of the closet for some time but an impending "Rattle Battle" bolt rifle match at my local range led me to seek her and her 6 round magazine out.

I see the serial number on the stock and bolt like my Greek return M1903 and remnants of red paint (very little indeed but its there) below the front swivel band. I had forgotten how nice these rifles are.....also got my
Pattern 14 out and put them next to each other. Sigh, so many rifles so little time.....

I only have " UNITEDSTATES RIFLE MODEL OF 1917" by C.S. Ferris, and highly recommend it.

I have The British Enfield Rifles Volume 4 Pattern 14 and U.S. Model of 1917 by Charles R. Stratton which is a great book. I also have The Broad Arrow, British ad Empire Factory Production, Proof, Inspection, Armourers, Unit & Issue Markings by Ian D. Skennerton which is great for your P14.

Skennerton's, "The US Enfield" works for me. I prefered it to Skip Strattons book, which I thought was more like a "quick start guide".

Skennerton's M1917 was last published (it appears) in 1983. Its only available on the secondary market and starts at about $150. I choose to wait on that one.

I ordered Ferris and Stratton and also ran across a new copy of Skennerton's big Lee-Enfied book for the correct price and ordered that as well. I had been wanting that Skennerton book for some time but it was always unavailable or too much money from the secondary market.

In any event the Ferris and Stratton book should keep me busy for a while and perhaps breed some pointed questions that might cause some searching and posting on this site.

I am surprised that Canfield or Brophy do not have M1917 books. They seem to have written books on every other U.S. martial arm.

Col. Brophy passed away some time ago. His work on the '03 is truly encyclopedic however.
