    Chantilly Gun Show This Weekend

Don't forget the Chantilly Show this weekend. 1000 tables, all sold out. If you can't find it there, you can't find it.

What with a high school reunion on Saturday and a cowboy shoot on Sunday, I can't make that one. If you go, let us know what the ammo and reloading components (especially primers) availability was like.

I hate to ask ..... Where is Chantilly? Is that somewhere in Virginia? Got to be a ways from Sunny Arizona .... so I suppose I will have to pass on this one. We have a couple of nice ones in AZ .. Phoenix actually .. I don't know how many tables ... but there were four or five buildings and a couple of over flow tents at that last one. One building has nothing but Class Three and major artillery ..

The Yuma shows are a lot smaller ... but the last one stood out with the bulk ammo going out the door. Took all of the first two hours to sell off a bunch of pallets full.

This end of the world is getting real difficult to find a lot of ammo .. gun shops are complaining that most of what they order is backordered ... the Cabrela's in Phoenix reportedly won't sell more than one box of 50 - 22 rds per person per day. Is it nuts where you guys are too?

The biggest ammo dealer at Chantilly had 10 tables, arranged in sort of a rectangle. The crowd was 4 and 5 deep all around, and there was a line of people waiting also. Prices were out of this world. I saw a case of 20 boxes of .380 Remington FMJ sell for $600. That's $30 a box. Another smaller dealer was selling individual boxes of .380 for $65 each, and had already sold 3 cases of the stuff. 9mm hardball was $20 a box.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think we're doing this to ourselves. Panic has taken hold, and people are going crazy. I'm just going to sit back and wait this one out.
Lots of other stuff available. I bought a .45 Colt New Service w/o grips for $120. It needs some work, a new set of grips and a butt swivel. But I'm very happy with it at that price. Lots of Garands and Carbines, and a ton of black rifles. I sold a 600 round spam can of .30 carbine for $220, and a 140 rounds of .223 for $50.
    A good show so far.

My smallish town had their first gun show in about 9 months. Usually I take my time, get over there about 0905, park fairly close, walk up and in 2 minutes I am in browsing. HOOOLYYYYY SHEEEEEEIT!!!!

Today the big parking area was already parking on the streets. The line was snaked out over 200 yards. Took me 25 minutes to get to the ticket window.

Inside, total BEDLAM!!! I bought nothing, was 45 minutes before I could get back to the first isle on the right. A few Garands, NO Carbines at all. Some old milsurps, priced $100 over what I would pay. NO .380 ammo whatsoever. Some powder, not overly priced, but primers were $33 a box of 1000.

I have mixed feelings. Was glad to see such a turnout, maybe they will have them more sooner now. But it was the first gun show that I didn't have any fun at all. Couldn't talk to a dealer, they were all busy. The next time I may just wait 2-3 hours after they open before I go, miss all the good deals.

I just got back from our Phx. show. Wow! Lines longer than I have ever seen(to get in). Three or four deep at the ammo dealers. Even the local news was there.

On Saturday my buddy bought a CZ varmint gun in .223. He was happy. Trying to find .223 ammo in that joint was hilarious. In order to trek across the bldg to where we had seen some ammo we had to specifically choose aisles that had no handguns, as they were clogged 2-deep with ogling young to middle-aged men. From our search he was convinced that there is, in fact, an ammo shortage....or that folks are buying and hoarding. The work-around? I am ordering a die set and components so we can handload future ammo. Yes, he had to "bite the bullet" and pay $90 shipped for 100 rnds of Hornady V-max 40-gr ammo from Sportsman Warehouse. From here on out, however, it gets cheaper each time we reload.

Also, disappointed that he wore the M1903 t-shirt I had made and neery a soul spoke to him about it. I think the M1903 forum members stayed home from this one.
