A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. While I don't read these dishrags, and never have, I can't help feeling sorry for the common folks that are employed by them. There are a lot of folks that have already been laid off and soon there will be thousands more and that really sucks, and it's not just the direct employee's,it also effects thousands more in the industries that support these publications. Kind of like what's happening to the auto industry. While I would like to see GM and Ford go under because of the total garbage they have been building the last 20 years,I also don't want to see all the mass layoff's that will happen as a result of that. And just like newspapers and magazines,it's not just the direct employee's that are effected,it's the massive support industry that will get hit the hardest.

If these companies, both media and automotive, would just offer a product that the people want, they would be able to pull out of this mess but apparently the top execs won't accept the blame they so rightly deserve. The top decision makers are the ones to blame. They are the ones that allowed the trash to be printed, the junk to be built, and the public has finally had enough of wasting their money on garbage. GM's new Camaro looks promising but I doubt you'll see many of them if they go under. To little to late. The best thing GM should do right now is file for bankruptcy to free themselves of the stranglehold the unions have on them. Next, the entire design team from top to bottom, with the exception of the Camaro team(the only good looking vehicle they currently have),should be fired along with all top execs,CEO,management etc. That is what will save them, offering a product the public would once again be proud to own and not just buy because"I needed a new car". Harley Earl has been rolling in his grave for 20 years now,it's about time GM opens their eyes and realizes the real problem is not just the economy,it's the lack of a good product that people want. Just like the newspapers listed above. Give the people want they want and they'll buy it,good times or bad.

This thread strikes a nerve with me too. I like reading my local dishrag but they too have "endorsed" the liberal wonks. The paper has gotten so small I can read it in 10 minutes.

But they may be waking up some, seeing the handwriting on the wall. Even though they feature the nationwide liberal loons, they do carry some good conservative writers too. If the day comes when I think they have totally crossed over to the dark side, I will drop them.

Therefore, I have absolutely no remorse about those big news outlets going under. They have pushed and pushed their liberal agenda until readers have had enough. Sorry about the few good people who must suffer, but that's the way it is.

RE: GM and the auto industry. I gave up on GM when I had my last new Camero in the 80's. Have had nothing but Fords since, even though the service at the local Ford dealerships suck horribly. Son still loves GMs, bought a new GMC SUV a few months ago. They love the gadgets, like rear view camera, but I dread when those gadgets start going bad.

Like most of you, I feel the best thing would be bankruptcy, get out of the stranglehold the unions have on them. When the price of a vehicle is not inflated because of wages, they will sell more.

This is, IF Obamma will let them build more than a solar powered Go-Kart.

I can see your point on the people who actualy print and put out the newspapers.
As for their left wing editorial staff, Sayonora Suckers! I am fed up with their leftist whining and insults! Most folks forget the Washington Post was originaly founded as a house organ for the Dimocrat party!

Now as to cars, I disagree. My last three cars have been Chrysler products and I was quite satisfied with the first two until some brain dead IDIOT hit me!
I have NO PLANS to replace my current PT Cruiser. AND I am sick and tired of the garbage about the quality of jap cars!

If one looks at the ratings for the T.V. 'news' stations one will find: leftist channels are going down hill fast and Fox ( I don't consider them right wing but they aren't pravda either ) has steadily improved ratings. America seems to be rejecting the leftist spin not the newspaper. I won't read a leftist paper because I don't want to pay $$ to be lied to. Let the free market decide.
