    We made pacifists out of them

    Our beating them, and beating them so thoroughly, changed both countries from being extremely warlike, aggressive and expansionist, to being pretty much pacifist.

    Pacifists who then had to rely on our forces, funded by our people's tax dollars, to keep them safe to develop stable, free, constitutional societies.

    Quite a turnaround. We did good.

    Regards

    P.S. Remind me again; just what was he apologizing about when he went over to Europe and Turkeyicon a few weeks ago?

    My Dad was with the 11th Airborne in the Philippines preparing for Operation Olympic when the A bombs were dropped. He says that he and his buddies were disappointed that the Japaneseicon surrendered because they wanted to fight. I'm guessing that none of them had been in combat before (Dad hadn't) which made them so gung-ho.
    The tenacity of the Japanese defenders on their home islands (Iwo Jima and Okinawa) and their proclivity to not only fight to the death but to either kill or persuade the civilian residents to commit suicide, the A bombs were the only choice. They saved many more Japanese lives than would have been if we hadn't used them.

    [QUOTE=Mike Josephic;44300]Department of Education? This is a joke -- a more proper name would be the Department of Disinformation.
    =======================================
    A more accurate name would be the Department of Indoctrination.
