    Hi Alan...

Yep, I know that the No8 bolt head is shorter than the Brit No7 bolt head, BUT it can be used to get a No7 back to shooting again. You CANNOT use a No7 bolt body, what you have to do is shorten a No4 bolt body after extending the interior threads to the proper length to ensure that the No8 bolt head will headspace properly on the breech end of the No7 barrel. At this point the rifle will be a single shot (since I don't have a No7 magazine with insert anyway!) and I plan on using a loading ramp from a Canadianicon No7 rifle. So, parts from a No4, a Canuck No7 and a No8 all to get a Brit No7 back shooting again!

P.S. NO you can't have my barrelled action! BTW, the search is almost over for the OTHER No7 you were asking about.

Ah, yes Alan. What I suspect is that Hal is going to use a No4 bolt that is cut down to be longer than the short No7 bolt so that it mates with the short No8 bolt head. Simple really AND it utilises a simpler to obtain extractor too. Without access to them side by side, then the ejector would work with a No8 bolt head too. That bit is a doddle to make.

Interesting project Hal, keep us informed

I had a Canadianicon No.7 bolt head modified to match the barrel of a Britishicon No.7. Shortened a No.4 bolt body and modified firing pin. Works well as a single shot, but must work the bolt rapidly to extract the fired case for it to drop in a 303 magazine with the follower and spring removed. If the bolt is pulled back slow the case slips off the extractor as it does not hold tight against the now recessed bolt face.

I have a picture but do not know how to post pictre here.

Here's a dressed up No.7 with a No.8 bolt head. An ejector is on my long list of things to do. Excellent for backyard pest control.
