    Repro M1A1 folding stocks?

    Good Morning Gents,

I doubt I'll be able to afford an original M1a1 folding stock. It seems that several reproduction folders are on the market. Are they all created equal? Does one exist that blows the others away? Who has the best prices these days? I have a dedicated inland just for the right stock. I just need a little info on which one.

    Thanks in advance.

I bought one several years ago when they were quite a bit cheaper ($100), and like it very much. It is my understanding that they are all made in Italyicon, and marketed by various companies here in the U.S.

Purchased a repro M1A1icon from Numrich about two years ago. Decent looking plain walnut high wood stock. No M2 switch cutout. Handguard was a fancy grain walnut with 4 aluminum rivets. Looked out of place on the stock and replaced it with a more matching USGI handguard. The metal stock is blued. Leather cheekpiece w/aluminum rivets also. Won't mistake it for a real one. It is solid and locks up tight. Was worth the $150.00 or so I paid.

Friend purchased one from Sarco about the same time. It is birch with low wood and M2 switch cut. Parkerized metal and decent looking leather cheekpiece with proper looking rivets. He has shot it in local CMPicon carbine matchs and has done well. Paid the same.

I got one from Sportsman's Guide a couple years ago. Same thing Numrich was selling. Excellent quality, made in Italyicon. After dyeing the leather and painting the rivets it looks great. (You could use aluminum black too probably.) For shooting a regular stock is a lot better, IMHO, but if you want something to carry in a backpack or the trunk of your car, or if you are a re-enactor, one of those stocks coupled with a CMPicon service grade would be great.

I have one of the Italianicon made repro's and I think it's pretty good fit and finish. Seems I paid about $110 new for it at a gunshow a couple of years back.

    - change it back -
