Does what you're saying mean that you can OWN automatics like the Bren, keep them at home and fire them but NOT take them in your car to a range? Sheeees. What if you had a range at home, in your cellar?
Yup, as of a few years ago, that's the way it is. We are hoping our next government majority will give them the needed "nuts" to change that law..
The possession, but not take them to the range "law", came into effect as a result of a simple interpretation of a section of our Criminal Code. One Liberal party employed lawyer in the Dept of Justice (as if) gave her interpretation of the transport regulations. She believed the law did not allow us to transport our machine guns and other named "evil black guns" to the range. So of course the Liberal party of the day agreed and therefore would not issue the required Authority To Transport permits for those particular firearms... Hopefully with a new Tory govt, that will change..
If you had a range on your property, then yes, you could shoot them, as you are not transporting to an Attorney General approved range.
It doesn't have to make sense, it's Canadian gun law.
