A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. I don't know how you knew I did three tours, I didn't put that in the note. The Navy wasn't one tour and gone. They could send us back as needed.
First tour was PBR's, second and third was Assault Craft.
By the way, Kerry was a grandstander. Enough said on that. Don't remember him, remember the 58,228 men and women who gave the ultimate price. They are the real hero's.

Howdy folks, I just happen to look through my stuff and found the Life magazine (June 12, 1964) regarding the Army Captain with the M2; "In South Vietnam, U.S. Army Captain Robert Bacon leads a Vietnamese patrol". The story in the mag. doesn't mention the Captain at all.

Good stuff guys and thank for your service. It would seem the carbine would be a good choice in Nam. I would feel comfortable with it in most cases.

I went in in 1972. I was in Jump School when Nixon announced we were coming out and finished the SF Medic program in late 73 and went to the 5th SFGA as a Chief team medic. It was common knowledge in SF that the carbine was issued to the Mountainyards(?sp) via SF and highly favored. They were little in stature and big on action. A great rifle for them.

Great little rifles in many situations. Shipment and aid to Korea, RVN et. al. are part of why we have so little left to collectors.

"Great little rifles in many situations." Prolly same could be said of the early 16s and ammo.

I was wondering if Cpt. Bacon made it through. I checked and found a 'Robert Franklin Bacon' on 'the wall'. This Bacon was born in 1945, which would have made that Cpt. 19 in '64. He looked older than that, plus I don't think you found many 19 yr. old Cpts. in '64. I think he made it through 'Nam.
