    Function Problem part 2, long

Many of you might remember in the biginning of April I posted a topic about problems I was having with my M1icon Garand and LC 69 ammo. To summarize I was shooting my reloads and some LC 69 ammo I had purchased from the CMPicon several years ago. My releads functioned fine, but the LC ammo would either double, or get stuck in the chamber. I received many helpful suggestions and some tests I should try. One of these was that doubling can occur when shooting a match trigger off a rest, so it was suggested that I shoot off hand or prone and that I bring a second trigger group to see if it has the same problem. It was also suggested that LC 69 was delinked machine gun ammo and was a little "hot". But it was also stated that a;; ammo was loaded the same and the idea of hot ammo was just urban leagend. One theory I had was that while the LC might not be hot it might have a different preassure curve and so might just not work to well in a Garand

Between vacation and every weekend being rainy I have not had a chance to get to the range until today. Today all of my shots where taken off hand, from a clip and I did not have any doubles. However as befor, my reloads functioned perfectly and the LC kept getting stuck in the chamber. Tis would happen either every round in a clip or at best every other round. One other theory I had was that my reloads were nice and polished, shiny and smooth and the LC were non of these. In fact I would call them a little grungy, and you could see where the links had been. So I had pulled a round, discarded the bullet and powder and loaded with the same powder and bullet as my reloads. I then placed it in the middle of a clip with my reloads. When I fired this the rifle functioned fine until it got to the LC case which stuck in the chamber. This leads me to conclude that the problem is the cases and that they are just to grungy to function correctly in a gas gun.

You might try tumbling some of those LC rounds to clean them up and then see if they'll function correctly. Another thought, take an unfired case and measure it's OAL to see if it meets specs or is slightly oversized.
