    Anyone install a 1903 in a 40X stock?

I like the look and feel of the Remington 40X stock. I have a bubba'd '03 action I'm considering installing in a rough 40X stock. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. It looks like it woud fit with a bit of inletting - probably more than I think, but....

    TIA, RBruce

    thats gonna be pretty tough.
Remington has a round bottom, and the 03 has a flat bottom.
youd be better off using a target stock from a M70 Winchester.
but with carving tools and some epoxy anything can be possible

Action length will probably be different, too. I believe the 40X was available in .30-06 only as a special order item so most stocks will be for the short .308 action.

.....probably more than I think, but.....

You Betcha! "Not enough sugar for a nickel" is how I describe that type effort vs. the finished product. You could do it by milling out the entire action area and filling it with a block of wood and start inletting from scratch; but if you are gonna do that, just start with a complete blank and make whatever style you like.

    FWIW,

    Emri

the 40X is a short action, thick walled 700, with a cut for a stripper clip.
havnt seen any long action 40x as of yet,
but im sure they have them someplace.
i can see way to much work to put a 1903 in a Remington stock,
tang is longer on a 03, round vrs flat bottom, on and on...
id say, use the right stock for the right rifle, and make it an easy job.
id swap a nice 03 sporter stock for a 40x repeater stock...
i have a 40x set in a target stock, and would love to have a standard repeater stock for it.
