Winchester made only 17,500 overstamped M2 carbines. They also made 1108 T3 carbines. It seems not a lot of carbines in general were overstamped if converted to M2 carbines.
For the year 1915. DWM Military serial numbers were observed as 1398 and ended as 3850d. From the Blue book of Gun Values.
The stamp in front of the serial number and those after the serial number ID the year, the series of the rifle and maker of the rifle. I no longer have my list of these markings but I am sure someone...
When a business has say a pile of 30 to 50 type 1 sights, what would you call that? If he has almost brand new early dated barrels for sale. (some with signes of being refinished after being...
The original ones with the spring are very hard to find now. The pins were never marked so one for say Inland will work for Winchester. That is if your carbine was made before early January 1943....
Photos of it would sure help for information on it.
I know a new primer, then firing would have corrected the problem and cleaned up the inside of the case. Wonder if the spider could have broken the sound barrier???
Late in July 1943,Quality ordered 2000 rear sight bases from Saginaw Steering Gear. They also requested 2000 full rear sights from Underwood late June 1943. The rear sight bases would be unmarked....
Quality Hardware received bolts (500 of them) from National Postal Meter in September 1943. This fits prettty close to your serial number.
The type 1 band is possible as it was in use to about the 5.5 serial number range with Winchester. The type 5 slide was also started in the 5.5 range and the type 2 or type 3 rear sight were in the...
Both bullets from a duplex will usually hit the target within two inches or less between them.
They take a special shell and not a normal type. This way only Police will have the ammo for it. I think it was Sarco that use to have loaded surplus ammo for it. Not cheap and very hard to reload.
If the markings on the receiver in front of the sight are the same as the serial number then its a good bet it had an adjustable rear sight at some point.
Just remember the check was designed for full auto fire. I think that is where you may find the big difference when shooting.
The dimpled primer happens with not much force. As a round is loaded in an M1 chamber, the primer hits the firing pin forcing it back into the bolt. The primer gets a little bit of a dent but nowhere...
During WW2 the government never used anything but raw linseed oil. A gloss reflecting stock was not considered to be of much value other then to get someone killed. There was NO Tung oil used on US...
The specs on the .30 carbine was approx. 1900 fps. max effective range was 300 yards with a velosity of about 850 fps. The same as a standard .38 spl round. After 300 yards it began to loose...
Looks like its a type 44 Russian or Chinese version. In the photos at the bottom of the story about him.
From what I was told the Soviets did not use armors to make their sniper rifles. They started in the factories with barrels which appeared to be top quailty. Then they made the rifles and twicked...
Well its a good thing cordite is a thing of the past with the .303. There are much better powders around for the .303. Is the type 34 primer needed with the .303? I doubt it is, as there are plenty...
As your brass is fited to the chamber more or less you only have to neck size the case.
PPU bullets all seem to be a bit undersized. At least a full thousand smaller then anyone else. This may be why you spreading of your groups. .308 diameter is .307 in reality. I have found this with...
There were several times during Inlands production that barrels were not dated. If I remember right the last one was about August 1944. Your barrel could have been stuck in a bin for many months...
WARNING!!!! Do NOT try to tighten the nut like your King Kong. IN doing so you can crack the gas housing and no amount of welding or brazing will work. It will just continue to break. The barrel is...
